Local Government Investment Pool

Photo of cashThe State of Wisconsin Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) gives all local governments in Wisconsin the opportunity to combine their idle cash to make short-term investments. The LGIP has been designed to maintain the integrity of local funds within a diversified and low-risk portfolio, provide liquidity and offer competitive rates of return. Investments are managed by SWIB.

Over 1,000 local government units participate in the LGIP. School districts, towns, villages, counties, cities and other special districts in addition to commissions, committees, boards or other sub-units of these entities are eligible to participate on a voluntary basis as provided in 25.50 of the State Statutes. The funds from the LGIP are combined with funds from the State of Wisconsin and retirement funds and managed as one fund called the State Investment Fund.
