Investment Strategy
Managing the assets of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) is a diligent
process. Overall investment decisions for the Core Fund are based on the best
opportunities for the long-term objectives of the WRS. A focus on immediate
returns will be driven by a very different strategy than one looking ahead to
prove retirement benefits for thousands of public employees now and in the
future.
SWIB's strategy takes into account that there will be investment gains in some
years and losses in others and relies on professional investment management,
diversification of investments and a long-term investment strategy to achieve
its goal. Meeting this investment objective has helped the WRS to be a
well-funded system, as reported in 2007 in a 50-year financial projection by the system's
actuary.
